Dr. Gerry McCartney is a nationally and internationally recognized IT academic executive known for a long and successful history of creating innovative and sustaining programs that merge the academic and practitioner IT worlds. McCartney has served as Purdue University's chief information officer since July 2006. As University CIO, he is responsible for the management of all Purdue data and IT resources at the West Lafayette, Northwest and Fort Wayne campuses. He holds tenure at the rank of Professor in Purdue's College of Technology and is the inaugural Oesterle Professor of Information Technology.
He has enjoyed significant professional success: in 2012, he received a Campus Technology Innovator award, in 2013 he was awarded the Global Leader in IT Value award, in 2015 he named one of the nation’s Premier 100 CIOs by Computerworld and in August of this year he was named 2016 CTO of the year by the Indiana Business Journal. He is a frequent invited speaker at international technology events, and serves on advisory boards for Intel, DocuSign and Cisco.
Dr. McCartney is a relentless promoter of both Purdue and the idea of the land-grant university who has received international recognition for his novel approach to reinventing IT around data and business intelligence services and away from hardware and software provisioning.
